SteamTools is a free lookup tool that turns a Steam App ID into the manifest and Lua script pair used by SteamTools. It's a faster alternative to chasing the file in Discords or third-party hosting.

How do I use the files?

Drop the .manifest file into SteamTools' depotcache folder and the .lua file next to the SteamTools binary. Restart SteamTools and the game will appear in your library alongside everything else.

Yes. The site runs on a small Cloudflare Worker with no payment processor, no auth, and no ad network. If you want to support it, share a friend's App ID in our Discord.

Where do I find my App ID?

Open the game's Steam store page — the App ID is the number in the URL. For example, Portal 2's URL is store.steampowered.com/app/620, so the App ID is 620. We have a step-by-step guide on the /how-to-find-app-id page.

We only link to public Steam CDN endpoints. We never see your Steam account, and we never ask for credentials. As with any unofficial tool, the manifest files only unlock already-purchased library content.

Why does SteamTools need a Lua script?

Lua scripts tell SteamTools how to validate the manifest against Steam's servers and which branch to prefer when multiple are available (e.g. public, beta, experimental). They are part of the standard SteamTools workflow.

Can I self-host or contribute?

The site is open source. The search and generate endpoints are simple TanStack Start server routes — clone the repo, set DATABASE_PROVIDER=sqlite, and pnpm dev. PRs for additional languages and Steam regions are welcome.
